Menard Asia in Indonesia – Yogya International Airport
Yogyakarta International Airport
The New Yogyakarta International Airport was officially opened on 28 August 2020. YIA is an international airport located at Kulon Progo Regency. The airport is situated around 45 kilometers from the city of Yogyakarta, which serves the Yogyakarta Special Region, as well as nearby Central Javan cities such as Purworejo, Kebumen, Cilacap and Magelang. The airport serves flights to and from several cities and towns in Indonesia and some international destinations such as Malaysia and Singapore.
Seismic Zone in Yogyakarta and Mitigate the Liquefaction
The location of new Yogyakarta is within active seismic zone which made the loose sand prone to liquefaction. The Magnitude of design earthquake is 7.5 with PGA of 0.4g; factor safety against liquefaction is set to be 1.3. The ground condition in NYIA Project were predominantly loose sand layer with a thickness ranging from 4m-8m, underlain by dense sand layer. The SPT value of the top 8m sand layer was varies from 2 – 12. Due to the nature of ground condition, there is a need in compacting the loose sand at a depth of 4m-7m into a denser state to ensure that the new airport is safe against liquefaction. Dynamic Compaction is found to be the most effective solution for this job.
