Project Overview

Menard Cambodia – MGS Soil Treatment successfully completed a soil improvement project for the Bakheng Water Production Facilities at Phase 3 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, utilizing Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD).

Ground Condition

The project site presented a variety of soil types, including soft, cohesive soils like clays and silts. This type of soil requires an effective drainage solution to accelerate settlement. Ground improvement works were necessary to mitigate settlements under the Bakheng Water Production Facilities due to embankment operations, which involved raising the existing level by about 3 to 4 meters.

Solution: Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD)

Menard was awarded the supply and installation of PVD works, covering a total treatment area of approximately 29,000 m², with Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVDs) installed to an average depth of 30 meters, spaced on a 1.5m x 1.5m grid. The total installed length reached 360,000 meters.

The installation process was efficiently executed using a hydraulic excavator equipped with a specialized mast, ensuring precise placement of PVDs. The project aimed to complete around 12,500 Prefabricated Vertical Drain units within a five-week period, utilizing JK3400 Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) rigs to achieve depths of up to 30 meters. This Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD) solution successfully enhanced the ground's drainage capabilities, enabling faster settlement and providing a stable foundation for the water production facilities.
