Menard Asia in Cambodia has completed the ground improvement project for Data Center Buildings using Controlled Modulus Column (CMC).
Project Overview
Menard Cambodia successfully implemented ground improvement works using Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) for the construction of a data center building in Phnom Penh. Initially designed with a traditional driven pile foundation, the project involved seven new office buildings that required a stable and cost-effective solution to support their structures. By opting for CMC, Menard Cambodia was able to optimize both the foundation design and project schedule, ensuring a more efficient construction process.
Ground Condition
The site presented complex soil conditions, with layers consisting of made ground, clay, silt, silty sand, and sand mixtures. The soil's composition and load-bearing capacity necessitated a solution that could enhance stability while remaining economically viable. Menard Cambodia implemented approximately 620 CMC piles with a diameter of 300 mm across the footprints of the seven buildings, designed to support a service load of 27 tons each.
Solution: Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC)
Menard Cambodia's engineering team designed and implemented a ground improvement solution using Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) to reinforce the soil beneath the shallow footings of the data center buildings. This innovative approach allowed for the construction of a solid foundation without the need for extensive excavation or traditional piling methods.
The use of CMC not only increased the load-bearing capacity of the soil but also significantly reduced the project timeline for the foundation works. What was initially planned to take a month using conventional piling methods was completed in just one week with the CMC technique, offering substantial time and cost savings for the client.
