Menard Asia’s solution in Johor, Malaysia was using the Prefabricated Vertical Drain technique to treat the area for B15 and B16 Road of Bandar Universiti Pagoh.

Bandar Universiti Pagoh is a new township built around Pagoh Education Hub and is partly developed by Sime Darby Property in Pagoh, Muar District, Johor, Malaysia. Bandar Universiti Pagoh will make its mark as an international education destination and national acclaim. In this project, Menard Asia participate as Ground Improvement Specialist for the area of B15 and B16 road in Phase 2A.

Project Overview

The project consists of road construction over soft compressible soils in B15 and B16, Phase 2A, Bandar Universiti Pagoh, Johor.

Ground Condition

B15 and B16 road was built over a piece of land with very soft to soft clay and silt at the upper 5 m of the subsoil. A considerable settlement was expected due to the road construction over this compressible subsoil. Therefore, soil improvement is needed to minimise the potential long-term settlement of the road in this project.

Menard Solution

In order to accelerate the consolidation of the compressible soil, Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) with surcharge was proposed by the Engineer for this project. One PVD rig has been deployed by Menard Asia to complete the installation of 36,637 nos. of PVD over the project site within 1 month.
